Abstract

The IPCC report 2021 is just out and it has clearly pointed out that human activity is impacting the climate in unprecedented and irreversible ways. It warns us of increasingly extreme heatwaves, forest fires, droughts and flooding, and observes that the temperature limit set is broken in just over a decade. The UN Chief also observed that “is a code red for humanity”, but the scientific community has hope that catastrophe can be avoided if the world acts fast. This issue partially addresses concerns that the world is facing now such as COP-26 climate change conference’s role in achieving revised emissions target, global temperature-precipitation phase changes before the pre-industrial period, seasonal changes of temperature and energy balance affecting the health of glaciers, linkage between meteorology and hydrogeochemistry of meltwater, monsoons role in improving air quality during pandemic lock down and climate change impact in Bay of Bengal.
