Abstract

One hundred and fifty one countries participated in the recently concluded COP26 UN Climate Change Conference at Glasgow where they submitted new climate plans (NDCs) to slash their emissions by 2030 to keep the goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5 degrees C within reach. But the United Nations put the world on track for 2.5 degrees C of warming by the end of the century which is extremely dangerous. The climate change impact on livelihood of people and the critical role played by education and learning into all levels of education, changes happening in past and present in the high altitude lakes of Himalayas and proxies used to understand the changes in the past are dealt in detail in this issue of our Journal.
